ACEO Clown #140 "Fumagalli" Gianni Huesca
acrylic on paper,
2 ½” x 3 ½” (64 x 89 mm), 2019
SOLD

ACEO Clown portrait #140 is inspired by a professional circus clown "Fumagalli" (Gianni Huesca) from  Genoa, Italy. He is the younger brother of famous clown Daris Huesca.  For many years he performed with his brother in a remarkable tight-wire act, as the Feller Boys, which combined all sorts of balancing feats with teeter board on the wire. Later on they became circus clowns and they worked at Circus Roncalli. In January 2001, he was invited to the International Circus Festival of Monte-Carlo, where he won the prestigious Silver Clown award. That same year, he toured in Germany with the short-lived Circus Fumagalli, which he ran with his brother for one season. After that, Daris Huesca and Fumagalli limited their activities to clowning and starred in some of the world's most prestigious circuses, including Cirkus Benneweis; Circus Knie; the Cirque d'Hiver-Bouglione in Paris; Circus Carré in Amsterdam; and the Big Apple Circus, as well as in several variety shows. They also became frequent guests on the hit French television variety show, Le plus grand cabaret du monde. In 2015, Fumagalli and Daris won the coveted Gold Clown at the 39th International Circus Festival of Monte-Carlo—the most prestigious award in the circus world.

ACEO Clown Portrait #139 "Daris Huesca"

ACEO Clown #139 "Daris Huesca"
acrylic on paper,
2 ½” x 3 ½” (64 x 89 mm), 2019
SOLD

ACEO Clown portrait #139 is inspired by a professional circus clown  "Daris Huesca" from  Morbegno, Italy. He is the brother of famous clown "Fumagalli" (Gianni Huesca). The couple were trained in all acrobatic disciplines by their brother-in-law, Hans Bruckson. They performed with him in a remarkable tight-wire act, the Feller Boys, which combined all sorts of balancing feats with teeterboard on the wire. For many years, the Feller Boys enjoyed a brilliant international career. His brother Gianni, however, had a knack for comedy and performed clown reprises and comic acrobatic routines from time to time with Daris.

In 1994, Bernhard Paul, the director of the famous German circus Roncalli, (and also its resident star auguste, under the name of Zippo) hired the couple. They worked at circus Roncalli until 2000 and they worked in many different circuses all around the world.  In 2015, Daris  Fumagalli won the coveted Gold Clown at the 39th International Circus Festival of Monte-Carlo—the most prestigious award in the circus world.

ACEO Portrait #136 "The Tramp" / Charlot

ACEO #136 "The Tramp" (Charlot)
acrylic on paper,
2 ½” x 3 ½” (64 x 89 mm), 2019

ACEO #136 is a homage to the biggest inspiration of clowns and comedians, "The Tramp" (Charlot),  Charles Spencer Chaplin  (1889 – 1977).  He was an English comic actor, filmmaker, and composer who rose to fame in the era of silent film. He became a worldwide icon through his screen persona  "The Tramp" ,  and is considered one of the most important figures in the history of the film industry. His career spanned more than 75 years. His silent black and white movies are timeless classics. I enjoyed a lot watching them while I was painting his portrait on YouTube. I love one of his quote  "A day without smiling is a day wasted."
