ACEO Clown Portrait #230 "Pancracio"
ACEO Clown #230 "Pancracio" (Fernando Alvarez)
2 ½” x 3 ½” (64 x 89 mm)
ACEO Clown portrait #230 is inspired by a wonderful august clown called "Pancracio" (Fernando Alvarez) originally from Jerez de La Frontera in southern Spain but he has been settled many years ago in the French capital Paris. in Spain circus was at his peak and there were many talented clowns with lots of success. Getting the inspiration from these clown starts such as Emy, Goti y Cañamon, the Andreu Rivels, Ramper, Popey, Los Hermanos Tonetti, Pompoff y Thedy and many more, Fernando wanted to be a clown at very young age.
He was twelve when he joined the Muchachos’ circus school in 1967, where he was trained in all forms of basic acrobatics and other circus specialties, and was naturally cast as a clown, under the name of Pancracio. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, the Circo de los Muchachos embarked into an international tour that took them all over Europe, and then to the United States, Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico, Senegal, the Ivory Coast, Cameroon, and Japan.
In the late 80's he associated with Manolo Martini(Los Martini-Llata), Johny Diaz to join him and form a new trio, the Trio Llata. Together, they worked with the Spanish Circus Ringland, of the Raluy family, in a tour that took them to Western and Central Africa until José Llata decided to retire. Later on, Fernando went to Paris and married a French girl whom he had met and fell in love with in 1970 when he was with the Muchachos at the Grand Palais. Since 1983 he settled in Paris and continues clowning and making people happy.

ACEO Clown Portrait #226 "Marcelino"
ACEO Clown #226 "Marcelino"
2 ½” x 3 ½” (6.3 x 8.9 cm)
ACEO Clown #226 is a homage to Marcelino Orbes, a world-renowned Spanish clown ( 1873-1927). Isidro Marcelino Orbés Casanova was born in Jaca, Spain. He performed in Spain, France and other European countries and his success brought him to London Hippodrome. He was one of the superstar clowns of the trans-Atlantic stage, appearing for five years at the Hippodrome in London, from 1900 to 1905, before embarking on a stunning ten-season residency at the New York Hippodrome. By 1915, Marceline had established himself as one of the western world’s most popular comedians. He was also one of the most influential. Chaplin and Buster Keaton admired his work.
Silent movies became popular at the height of his success. Later in 1915, he temporarily retired from show business and opened his first restaurant. It was a disaster. His two attempts to enter the restaurant business drained him financially. Shortly after his wife left him. In 1925, Marcelino ordered what may have been his final costumed image as a means of garnering more attention for his failing act, though it does not appear to have helped. Just two years after that picture was taken he would be found dead in the rundown hotel in which he spent his last days (he had shot himself, surrounded by old pictures of himself in costume.)
