Clown #132 "Monti"
acrylic on paper,
2 ½” x 3 ½” (64 x 89 mm), 2019
This week is international clown week. I wanna say Happy clown week to all my clown friends! I painted a new ACEO clown portrait. ACEO clown #132 is a homage to a very talented and unique clown "Monti" Joan Montanyès (1965-2013) from Barcelona, Spain. I watched his performances on YouTube, he was truly genuine clown artist. Monti was the son of a theater director Josep Montanyès. He studied classical music in the conservatory in Barcelona. He started to his career in musical productions in the early 90' and later on he became a clown working with Tortell Poltrona and they founded "Banda Clown". In 1996 he founded his own comedy production company "Monti & Cia" collaborating with Oriol Boixader, Jordi Martínez, Domènec de Guzmán, Fulgenci Mestres y Pipo Sosmhis. In 2001 he was awarded el Premio Max of circus. He worked at el Circo Italiano, el Circo Raluy and el circo alemán Circus Roncalli, where he performed as Monti & Cia with Oriol Boixader y Fulgenci Mestres.(Oriol and Gensi, I painted their portraits). Unfortunately Monti died at very young age a cause of a cancer. He was a father of 4 kids. You can watch him on YouTube on this link.
