ACEO Clown Portrait #141 "Enrichetto" Enrico Fumagalli

ACEO Clown #141 "Enrichetto" Enrico Fumagalli
acrylic on paper,
2 ½” x 3 ½” (64 x 89 mm), 2019

ACEO clown portrait #141 is homage to "Enrichetto" Enrico Fumagalli, the father of Fumagalli brothers I recently painted. Enrico Fumagalli didn't come from a circus background, he was an Austrian of Jewish descent, he had left his hometown of Gratz when the Nazi came to power, and took refuge in Italy. There he worked as a clown under the name of Enrico ("Enrichetto") Fumagalli with Circo Liana, Nando e Rinaldo Orfei, which was until the 1970s one of the major postwar Italian circuses, and other circuses. Like many Italian clowns, Enrico Fumagalli appeared in Federico Fellini's movie, I Clowns (1970), and then he retired from performing. I watched this movie recently again to see him. He was at the end of the movie on the funeral/chase scene. Have a great weekend!
